As temperatures rise again, residents of Victoria are being cautioned about an impending surge in fire risk.
Tomorrow, most areas in the state will face an extreme fire danger rating, driven by warm weather conditions and north-westerly winds, which will shift to more gusty south-westerly breezes later on.
Interestingly, the South-West and East Gippsland Fire Districts are the only parts of Victoria where the fire danger level will be labeled as high instead of extreme for tomorrow.
In Melbourne, the forecast indicates that temperatures will hit around 32 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a decent chance of showers in the afternoon and evening hours.
However, it’s expected to be even hotter in the northern regions, with Mildura potentially reaching a scorching 40 degrees. Other towns are also bracing for high temperatures; Echuca is projected to reach 39 degrees while Bendigo is looking at around 36 degrees.
In Gippsland, Bairnsdale will see highs of about 37 degrees, but there’s some good news as well: they can expect between 5 to 15 millimeters of rain later in the day.
Winds from the north to north-west are anticipated to pick up, blowing at speeds of up to 30 km/h, before the cooler south-westerly air mass arrives.
A band of rain is likely to sweep across the state in the afternoon and evening, with various regions expected to receive a few millimeters of precipitation.
Notably, the north-east district is already under a total fire ban today due to extremely hot and dry conditions compounded by moderate westerly winds.
As of now, no total fire bans have been announced for any areas in Victoria for tomorrow.
Authorities are expected to provide further insights regarding the fire danger at a press conference scheduled for 2:30 PM today.
